Information and Online map of the Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands are a group of islands in the South Pacific Ocean, just east of Papua New Guinea. The UK established a protectorate over the Solomon Islands in the 1890s. Some of the bitterest fighting of World War II occurred on these islands. Self-government was achieved in 1976 and independence two years later.

The terrain of the Solomon Islands is mostly rugged mountains with some low coral atolls. The islands are surrounded by coral reefs and hundreds of WWII wrecks which attract scuba divers, skin divers and snorkellers. Inland, people challenge themselves with mountain and volcano climbing. The highest point in the country is Mount Makarakomburu, towering at 2,447 m. With a map of Solomon Islands and a Solomon Islands travel guide, you will be sure to make the most of your time in this fascinating country.
